Adoption Information
Here at BDSS we care very much about all of the sugars in our care, they are not just breeding animals for money/income, they are not just our pets... They are all part of our family and we spend a lot of time with them!
We do our absolute best to make sure that the homes our sugar babies go to are set up for success and an awesome experience as they enter the world of sugar ownership, or if this is their first experience with a BDSS sugar but are already experienced sugar owners!

First and foremost we want to make sure that our babies new homes are prepared and have a proper & safe set up as well as the appropriate knowledge to properly care for their new babies, so the first step in adopting a BDSS sugar is a conversation between you and I (Dawn), so that I can verify this and also get to know you as you will forever be a part of the BDSS family when you adopt one of our sugars. You can start this conversation by going to the contact me page and sending me a message, clicking on the chat feature at the bottom right corner of this site, or messaging me through our Facebook page which you can go to by clicking on the Facebook icon on the top left corner of this site.

If you are new to sugar ownership there is so much to learn and it can be overwhelming at times. There are several great websites and Facebook groups(I can/will provide you with links to these that I feel are very informative, helpful and have the most accurate information) to help you in your new endeavor, however when you adopt a BDSS sugar you will automatically enter into a mentorship with myself and I will always be willing to provide help or advise when needed. The information I will provide to you will be according to the information I have read, researched, or had personal experience with, if you ever feel something I tell you may not be accurate please feel free to let me know this and we can research it together to find the accurate information as this will help us both :)

After making sure that the new families are fully prepared and ready for their new babies we do have some requirements and guidelines for adopting one of our sugars to ensure that our babies are always safe and taken care of. To enable us to do this, as of December 28th, 2019, all of our sugar babies new owners are required to complete an adoption contract prior to the adoption.
Below is a summarized list of requirements:
~Sugars MUST have at least 1 cage mate.
~Females adopted as pet only must never be housed with an intact male for any reason.
~If for any reason you are unable to keep any BDSS sugars they must be returned to BDSS.
~Keep in contact with BDSS & provided updates on adopted sugars.
~Sugars must be fed an approved diet: BML, TPG, OHPW(not any of the instant powders mixed with water), or CritterLove. A pelleted food may be added to the diet as a snack & to help promote dental health, but should never be the sugar's main diet(with the exception of the BML Kibble).
~Sugars must be housed in an appropriate sized cage, which is 30"w x 18"d x 36"t minimum. This MUST be increased if more than 2 sugars are to be housed in the same cage.
~Cages MUST included a minimum of 1 toy, 1 wheel, and 1 fleece sleeping pouch obtained from approved vendors.
~You MUST be able to provide immediate vet care for sugars when needed.

Pet Only Adoptions:
All males adopted as pet only will be neutered prior to going to their new family, this cost is included in my pet only pricing. They are not able to be neutered until they are at least 12 weeks out of pouch and will not go home until they have had at least a 5 day recovery period. My vet only does surgeries on Mondays, so babies can go home the following Saturday if all is well.

If you already have another sugar and you are adopting a female as pet only, you will be asked to do a video chat with me to show me the belly of your sugar to prove gender. If the sugar you have is a male you MUST show proof of neuter by providing vet records prior to being allowed to adopted a female as pet only. A contract or deposit will not be accepted until the proof of neuter is provided, and the glider will not be held.

Pricing:
My pricing varies based on a couple of factors, those being if your are wanting your sugar as pet only or are wanting your sugar with breeding rights(must have owned gliders for at least 1yr & have done research on breeding sugars), and coloration & hets. Pricing starts at $300(standard gray pet only) and goes up from there. Please refer to the individual sugar's information on our "Available For Adoption" page.

Payment Plans:
I know that these little guys can be expensive and I do my best to work with people when it comes to my payment plans. I do not list my babies as available until they are at least 3 weeks out of pouch. Typically what I do is accept a deposit(amount based on total price of baby) at that time to hold your baby. Then a payment plan is created with the remaining balance divided into bi-weekly payments until the baby reaches 10 weeks out of pouch, as I do not let my sugar babies go to new homes until they are 10 weeks out of pouch.

During the time that you are making payments on your baby I will do my best to provide you with updated photos and videos as your baby grows. We can also schedule times to do video calls (through Facebook messenger) if you would like so that you can see your baby and their parents. We will also be posting these photos & videos on the Facebook page as well as doing some Facebook live videos on the page from time to time.
Pick-Up & Transportation:
Once your babies are paid in full, you have the option of either picking your babies up directly from me, or there is a USDA registered ground transportation company(KD's Critter Transport) that will pick up your babies from me and then deliver them to your doorstep. This company provides transportation all over the US.
How you will be receiving your babies must be determined and stated at the beginning of the adoption process. If you choose and/or need to use the transportation option, I do require your babies to receive a vet exam to obtain a health certificate & a fecal test through my vet prior to your babies being transported at your expense. You will receive a copy of the vet records once the appointment is completed. The transportation & vet fees are additional to the cost of your babies, and are to paid no later than 14 days prior to the beginning of the transport route. When using transport keep in mind that the date/time of the transport may fluctuate do to weather, traffic, etc. So please have a back up plan/person to be able to receive your babies for you should you not be available to receive your babies due to a date/time change.
